Appointment With Death

I traveled up to NC for a funeral last Friday. The minister reminded us that death is the one appointment that we will not be late for or forget to show up at. He called it a divine appointment. An appointment with death. Old, young, rich or poor; when death comes knocking there is no where to run to and no where to hide. The bible says that it is appointed once for man to die. A time to be born and a time to die. I ponder these things. The mystery of life. I wonder ...

A country lane
A fish pond
An old man and woman
Married fifty years

A funeral
The procession
Brave faces and tears
An appointment with death

Grandchildren
Great grans
Hustle and bustle
Families gather for comfort

Soul food
Sausage and grits
Hash browns and ham
Home cooked cuisine

Memories
What might have been
No warning sign
No hint of tomorrow

Darkened face
Still as stone
No memory left
So much left undone

Serene
Refreshing
Fresh dew upon the earth
The early morning sunrise

Life
Ours to go on
I return to my world
Until the last breath is done

I like the different style you've approached this theme with. It adds to the seriousness. Good job! Keep writing!!!

No, that is one appointment that you can't miss or even no exactly when the appointment will be.

I am sorry for the loved one who lost a love one. But, we must carry on each and every one left behind.

The poem you wrote is beautiful, you are very gifted. (In many ways)

Lilly, You write so well..truly the last line resonated deep within.

Life is a beautiful Journey.. one we all should treasured while we are still here.

Isn't it interesting as we look around that people are actually more cherished after they have departed than when still alive, truly we should appreciate them more when alive.

Look how the world condemned Michael Jackson when he was alive..May His Soul RIP. Now he is gone, the world(many of which are the same people who couldn't bare to have his name mentioned) mourn him and show their undying love..if only he was shown that amount of love from the world when still alive instead of judging him so much.

We should all make it a conscious effort to always let the ones we love know exactly how much, as we never do know when our time or theirs will come.

Life will end..yes, that is true..but to die a happy person..that is something which is Unique..to be able to say YES I LIVED AND LOVED LIFE..instead of letting life just pass us by. Many a time we live so much in the past that we forget to live in the moment.

Thank You Lilly, You truly are an inspiration.

Love, Sandy xx

Dear Friends,
Sorry for my delayed acknowledgment your lovely comments.

Thanks Brosreview,
I've missed your posts and can't wait to see your latest pieces.

Thanks Darsden,
You are right that we must carry on. Ain't life a mystery though?

Dear Sandy,
Ditto- yours is the inspiration and your words really spoke to my heart. I used to reminisce excessively about the past, the good old days ... and now I'm learning "to live in the moment" as you nicely put it.

I wish you all a wonderful month of August, and more creative energy.
